Jason studied trumpet and cornet from an early age under Alwyn Green and Colin Young of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and achieved Fellowship of Trinity College London in 1988.

Jason toured Europe as a member of several orchestras including a tour of the former Soviet Union, where he performed as a trumpet soloist at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall.

Jason joined Enfield Citadel Band in 1990 under the direction of James Williams. During his 13 years with the band on Solo Cornet, the band made several CD and radio recordings and toured throughout Europe and the UK. He also toured Japan in 2000 with Chalk Farm SA Band.

In April 2004, having moved from North London to the Nottingham area, he joined Ransome Band, enjoying his first ever contest by winning the Senior Cup at Blackpool in May 2004.
