David began playing the cornet at the age of 9 with the Carlton Silver Band. By the time he was 16, he was the band's Principle Cornet player.

In 1981, he was invited to play on the front row cornet section of the G.U.S Band, playing alongside the Ransome Band's former Musical Director Brian Grant. After a short spell with the Jaguar Cars, City of Coventry Band, he returned home to Carlton, by now the Nottingham City Transport Band, in 1988 and helped guide them into the championship section.

In 1994, David changed onto Soprano Cornet and later that year he joined the Ransome Band. He is featured as a soloist on the band's recordings and also at our concerts.
