Ransome Christmas Cracker

Sunday 3rd December saw the Ransome Band give their annual Christmas concert at the Palace theatre in Newark. Under the direction of Russell Gray the band thrilled the capacity audience with a varied programme of classics and Christmas favourites.

Soloists for the evening were David Bird ( soprano ) shining in a super Christmas solo called ' Little Lord Jesus',  John Thackery ( horn ) dazzling with 'Demelza', and David Belshaw showing real class in quiet slow playing in ' O Holy Night'.

Special soloist for the evening was 10 year old Michael Burke winner of the Newark Rotary Club Young Musician Of The Year, his prize for beating the other finalists was to play two solos accompanied by the band. Michael chose ' Chorus From The Hebrew Slaves' and ' Love Theme From Titanic' which were both played with style and confidence, certainly a young man to watch out for in the future!

A fantastic evening was rounded off with a rousing finale the Christmas classic 'Christmas Fantasy' by Gordon Langford, ensuring everyone went home happy and full of Christmas spirit.

Ransome Returns

The Ransome Band are delighted to announce the return of three old faces back to the ranks.

The Solo Baritone chair has been filled by band legend Bob Morten who has returned from a well deserved break from banding. Bob is an influential figure with experience and commitment that are second to none.

And it's welcome back to the boys at the back! BBb bass players Sam Kind and Pete Cousins make a welcome return to the band to bolster the bottom end. Sam returns from a spell at the EYMS band whilst Pete has been tempted out of retirement to return to the band that he spent several years with.

The band are really fortunate to see three excellent musicians / bandsman return at such an important time for the band. Their experience and ability are a major bonus to a band which has had to do some rebuilding. We wish them all a long and happy stay with the band.

The Ransome Band enter 2007 their 70th Anniversary year with great deal of promise. Several high profile concerts, a tour to Germany and the prospect of a very special BBC radio broadcast.
